On January 15, 2026, the Club received a heart-warming presentation from Peg Rogers and Jessica MacAdoo, group leads of the Broomfield chapter of Quilts of Valor. Quilts of Valor is a national 501(c)(3) organization that provides quilts to veterans that have been “touched by war”. The national organization was founded in 2003 by Catherine Robers, a Blue Star mom. Ms. Roberts had a son serving in the military at the time. She had a dream about a soldier, alone and surrounded by demons. Then, in her dream, the soldier donned a quilt and the quilt kept the demons at bay. The dream led to formation of Quilts of Valor. To be eligible for a quilt, a veteran must be nominated, including self-nomination, must have served in any capacity and must have been honorably discharged from any of the U.S. armed services. The recipient must still be alive at the time of presentation and must have been “touched by war”. The organization interprets “touched by war” broadly.  Quilts get awarded in a formal ceremony, which are typically held quarterly. The Broomfield chapter was founded in 2024. It made and presented 17 quilts during 2025 and expects to increase that number to 30-35 during 2026. Each quilt is hand-made, requiring about 40 hours of labor over about a month. The organization survives on donations, including donations of materials for the quilts.
