Maura was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the oldest of five children, and raised in the East San Francisco Bay Area in California. She loved her family vacations which were always camping trips in state, and national parks in California. Maura received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State College, Chico, and spent two years in the Navy Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War. She was never deployed overseas. Instead, she held down the home front at the Naval Hospital in Long Beach, California. Maura continued to hold down the home front and single parent during two more of her husband’s deployments to Vietnam and the many years afterward when he would be gone for Naval Reserve and Army National Guard assignments.
Maura’s civilian registered nurse career spanned fifty years in nursing homes, and she is now retired. Somewhere in the middle of all that she earned a Master of Arts in Applied Behavioral Science from Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington, so her very introverted and shy self could better function in a world full of other people. She is a member of the American Legion Post 22, the Adams County Genealogical Society, the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, the Rosary Makers at her church, and the current regent of the Front Range Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Eric Holloway, is on the national board of directors for project amigo will be speaking. He
will speak about this non-profit that educates the poorest children in Colima, Mexico. Project Amigo was founded by Rotarians and mostly supported by Rotarians. Many of the students are children of migrant farm workers. Our goal is to keep them in school and out of the fields at least through high school.
We do this by having students in the program attend tutoring centers, supply one-on-one guidance, school clothes, and food with basic financial assistance if needed. The desired result is to have students advance so we can give a full scholarship at the University of Colima.

The story of how a state in desperate economic times was able to convince Major League Baseball to expand by 2 teams and to award Colorado a Major League Baseball Franchise. With Baseball Season and Opening Day approaching – this might make an interesting program for your club. The movie is a demonstration of “When People work across geographical boundaries and political party lines, great things can happen. Our film was nominated for a Heartland Emmy Award. I was the Prime Sponsor of the bill and a member of the Colorado Baseball Commission and think the story behind the story is also a very interesting one. Let me know your thoughts.
