Thursday July 20, 2023 Club Meeting

Ben Vagher opened the meeting with this message and prayer sent to us from Dotti Moyer:

This week, I am sending you a prayer that my father wrote.  My Dad was a Rotarian in Penfield NY, a suburb of Rochester.  This club gave their gifts as well as their hearts forming and performing for many groups and veteran's hospitals in the area. He was a gifted musician and along with playing a mean piano, he also played the trombone.
The funny part of it is, he never read music and would have to listen to the other trombonists one time to memorize it.  His mother was a concert pianist and after arriving from Italy, she performed in and around New York City. He sat under the piano as a toddler while she practiced for concerts and gained a depth of music that touched the soul.
Along with donating his time in the Penfield Rotary Club Band, he read a prayer each week to start their meeting.
I ran across one of them the other day and thought of our club.

Hear our prayer, Oh Lord
Our father, we would be worthy stewards in thy sight.  We would give of our means, our time, our love, to serve thee and our fellowmen.
Help us, we pray, that this be not lip service alone, but true workable service, wholly acceptable unto thee.
Oh God, hear our prayer.  Amen

Cub Scout Pack 545  Program Updates
Thursday night (July 20th), we had the pleasure of welcoming the cub scout pack that we sponsor (pack 545) to our meeting. Their cubmaster Dave Lockley, committee chair Mary Hoyland, and Dave’s daughter,Anabella, gave us an informative presentation of all the fun and educational activities the scouts have been doing this summer. They also shared their latest newsletter, which invites everyone to Join Night for the 2023-2024 scouting year. Join Night is a great opportunity for girls and boys ages 5-10 to learn more about scouting and sign up for the program. It will take place on August 23, at 6:30 p.m., at 1235 W. 124th Place, Westminster.
We also learned about a remarkable story of a WWII veteran who survived captivity by the Japanese. His captor, who had been a Cub Scout in his youth, spared the soldier’s life when he noticed that he was guarding a fellow Cub Scout.

The Scouts concluded the evening with a generous donation of $1,139.94 to the Broomfield Rotary Charitable Foundation, expressing their gratitude for our ongoing support of Cub Scout Pack 545.
