Augustine Mumia Wanyama Update on Global Mind Hope
At our regular Club meeting on September 10, 2026, Kevin Townsend introduced Augustine Mumia Wanyama (top picture), who provided a moving update on the Global Mind Education Centre. Wanyama started the Centre in 2021 in the Kayole slum in Matopeni Village, Nairobi, Kenya. The goal of the Centre and its organization, Global Mind Hope, was to provide a quality education to local children.
In 2023, according to Wanyama, “the government destroyed the school”. At the time, the school had only 8 teachers and 23 students. Global Mind Hope set about to rebuild the school in 2024 (beginning of construction, second picture from top) and to raise funds necessary for the project. The school re-started from a home. Today, the school boasts 252 learners, 15 teachers and 4 non-teacher staff (building, corridor and classroom, 3rd, 4th and 5th pictures from top). The school serves students at the elementary and middle levels, providing them with education in English and Swahili. Subjects taught include chemistry and biology. The school recently acquired its first microscope. Older students receive HP laptops and Gideon’s Bibles. The school now has running water, including working sinks and toilets. Some of the students had never experienced working sinks or toilets prior to coming to the school. The school also provides all students with a cooked breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday, when the students attend school. For some of these without parents, the meals provided by the school might be only meals they eat all week, as they must scavenge for food on weekends.
Global Mind Hope plans to open another school in Uganda, which will emphasize vocational skills. For more information on the school and the organization, visit Home - GlobalMindHope.

Dave Manley will provide a visual presentation of the Battle of Kings Mountain, fought on October 7, 1780. Using maps to understand why battles turned out the way they do is difficult to comprehend. That’s why Dave created a 1/56th scale model of the battlefield and soldiers. You don't want to miss this one!
