Books are Linda's comfort food. She has read everywhere: under the covers at night, in waiting rooms, next to hospital beds, on the beach, in a plane, during 8th grade concert intermissions, anywhere there is enough light. She embodies Cicero's belief, " A room without books is like a body without a soul". So, when Dennis started talking about the Imagination Library, she was on board. She has made it her mission to seek out children ages 0 - 5 in Broomfield and sign them up for free books. As a former English and history teacher, Linda feels books can enlighten children, take them to delightful places and wrap them in imagination.
Since she retired, Linda has volunteered with many civic groups including FISH, INVENTHQ, Master Gardeners, Women's Gathering and Columbine Quilt Guild. Within the quilt guild she served as Vice President, President, Librarian, and chair of Community Quilts. Somehow, she finds time to travel extensively with Dennis and dig in the garden. Linda reads, knits and quilts prolifically, but also enjoys transplanting her seedlings and watching nature work its magic. Again, Cicero speaks to her, "if you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need."

I would describe my autobiography as an exploration of my personal journey, enhanced with both triumphs and challenges, as well as a glimpse into my daily life and the passions that bring me fulfillment and joy. My name is Milica Tomic, born on May 22, 2007, in the city of Novi Sad, Serbia. I spent my formative years in the idyllic town of Kikinda, nestled in the heart of North Banat, where I developed a deep appreciation for its community, living space, and tradition. My educational journey began at "St. Sava" Primary School, where I first had the opportunity to explore diverse interests and pursue my talents. In the Middle School, I actively participated in a variety of local and international cultural exchanges, including the E-Twinning project in 2019 and the Erasmus+ KA229 exchange program in 2022. These enriching experiences allowed me to engage in workshops and travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as to visit Spain. Through these collaborations, I discovered the significance of teamwork and personal involvement in enhancing mutual communities, while also immersing myself in the rich heritage and lifestyles of my peers from the Balkans, Eurasia, and beyond. I proudly represented my school in competitions across subjects such as physics, mathematics, chemistry, Serbian, and English, achieving honorable results. In 2022, I became a member of the "Dusan Vasiljev" Regional Center for Talented Youth in my hometown. Over the past three years, I authored three scientific research papers in physics on topics: "Influence of Climate Change on the Atmosphere and the Creation of Electrical Phenomena in It" (2021/22), "Application of X-ray Diffraction Analysis in Quasicrystal Structures" (2022/23), and "Approximation of Macroseismic Intensity and Ground Acceleration on Seismic Hazard Maps" (2023/24). While I take great pride in the overall placements of all three papers in Serbian National competitions, my most significant accomplishment came from my last paper, that was awarded with two gold medals at the International Conference of Young Scientists-the World Championship of High School Students' Research Papers in Natural Sciences, held in Izmir, Turkey in 2024. A new chapter in my life has opened as I enrolled at the "Dusan Vasiljev" High School, where I encountered numerous new choices and opportunities. Maintaining excellent academic performance, I continued to engage in school clubs and city events. My experiences at summer camps hosted by the Kikinda National Museum, which I attended as a child, inspired me to become a volunteer at the age of 16. Through my involvement in visitor interactions, film production, and workshop organization, I pursued my creativity, motivation, and longstanding passion for writing literary works. At the start of 2024, I was honored to become a finalist of the FLEX Program, receiving a full scholarship for a student exchange year in the United States, sponsored by the U.S. State Department. I am looking forward to being ambasador of my country and reprezent Serbia in Broomfield, Colorado, during the upcoming school year. Looking ahead, I aim to dedicate my studies to either architecture or international relations degree at one of the European universities. The endless support of my parents and two younger sisters, as well as the encouragement of my close friends, has shaped me into the ambitious, responsible, and perpetually optimistic person I am today. |
