Walk For Life

On October 21st, our club listened to Colin Macfarlane give a presentation on Walk for Life, an International Rotary project sponsored by the Rotary Club of Dhaka Buriganga in Bangladesh.
According to Colin, every year in Bangladesh, an estimated 5,000 children are born with a clubfoot deformity. Most of those children go untreated and must live their lives unable to walk.
Thanks to the Glencoe Foundation (a foundation started by Colin) and the Prosthetics Outreach Foundation, funding to help these children is available provided the children can be treated early. The average cost to treat a child is only $200. Remarkably, 100% of the donations they receive go directly to the in-country program for treatment of these children.
After listening to the program, a motion was made and seconded for our Club to donate $1,000 from our bingo proceeds to help these children. The Club also made a recommendation to our Foundation board to consider additional donations from the Foundation.
The donations from our club were made possible because of each member's participation in bingo and other fundraising activities put on by our Club. We should be proud to know that at least 5 children will be able to lead normal lives because we were able to help out financially.
