Rotary Golf Tournament & Open Fairways

On Monday, May 19, 2008 the Broomfield Rotary Club presented the fifth annual golf tournament that benefits the Broomfield Police officers and North

Metro Firefighters Fund which assists the men and women of these departments, and their families, when a police officer or a  fire fighter is  hurt or killed in the line of duty.  Approximately 156 golfers celebrated the weather and game at Eagle Trace Golf Club.

 

Forty-seven businesses,  contributed goods, services and money to make this event the most successful of the Rotary Golf Tournaments.  From its inception, this tournament has proven to be one of the most popular events of its kind, selling out all available golf foursomes each year. The funds raised by this event are shared by the Broomfield Police and North Metro Firefighters Benefit Funds and the Broomfield Rotary Club Charitable Foundation. 

 

This year, the Rotary Club became a supporter of Open Fairways, a program  that  teaches  disadvantaged kids the game of golf at no cost to them. Open Fairways, a program active in Colorado, is a 501C3 corporation founded in October, 1999.  Dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged and at-risk youngsters ages seven to seventeen, the program begins with the kids attending classes that teach them correct behavior and promise to stay away from drugs, alcohol and gangs.  Then the fun begins as they learn the game of golf and establish relationships with adults who are careful to be good role members and mentors. They learn good work habits and become more self-confident.
