ROTARY HOSTED A SPECIAL EVENT TO CELEBRATE THE IMAGINATION LIBRARY

We brought together educators, community leaders, and literacy advocates from across the state. As Ben Vagher noted, the evening showcased not only the Imagination Library, but also the strength of Broomfield Rotary.

We were honored to welcome representatives from Broomfield elementary schools, the Broomfield Library, the Imagination Library of Colorado, the Broomfield Early Childhood Council, private preschools, the Boulder Valley School District and Adams 12 schools. Their presence highlighted the strong partnerships that are helping us expand the program and reach more families.

Our featured speaker was Dr. Lisa Roy, Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Early Childhood. She shared her inspiring perspective on the importance of early literacy and highlighted the program’s remarkable progress. In just 2 years, Broomfield’s Imagination Library has delivered more than 13,000 books to over 1,000 local families. Dr. Roy also emphasized the broader statewide impact, with nearly one-third of Colorado’s eligible children now receiving monthly books—including bilingual titles that reflect the diversity of our communities.
Dr. Roy also shared powerful quotes from Broomfield parents:

“We love it. It’s the most exciting mail for our child, and for us, we appreciate the diversity.”

“It helps my daughter to feel special. She doesn’t get to go to school yet, and she gets her very own book in the mail.”

“My child’s enthusiasm and love for books has grown 100-fold.”

98% of parents say they love the quality of the books, and children in the program are entering kindergarten better prepared to learn and succeed.

Dr. Roy reminded us that local and state partnerships are shaping a brighter future for families—and that investing in young children creates lasting benefits for the entire community.
