Rotary Clubs Return to Bal Swan for Third Straight Epic Day of Service
For the third year in a row, members of Broomfield Rotary and Broomfield Crossing Rotary spent Saturday at the Bal Swan Children’s Center for Rotary’s annual Epic Day of Service.
This year’s work included landscaping cleanup, drainage improvements, classroom painting, library organization, and general cleanup around the campus.
Outside crews tackled overgrown grass, weeds, and drainage areas. Inside, volunteers reorganized books in the library, cleaned work areas, and completely repainted one of the classrooms.
As usual, the day came with a few surprises:
The first heavy weed mower rented by Redd lost its drive chain and had to be replaced. Then the electric weed trimmer strings jammed repeatedly. At one point it felt like the landscaping equipment had formed its own opposition committee against the project. But somehow the work still got finished — and more importantly, we still wrapped up in time for pizza from Infinitus Pie — a locally owned Broomfield restaurant that provided a perfect ending to a long day of service.
One mystery remains unsolved: despite painting an entire classroom, Kyle somehow ended up being the only painter with paint on his shirt. Everyone else managed to finish the job without getting any paint or pizza sauce on their treasured Rotary T-Shirts.
Bal Swan has served children with disabilities and developmental delays in the Broomfield area since 1968, providing specialized early childhood education, therapy, and family support services. Over the past several years, the relationship between Bal Swan and the two Rotary clubs has grown into one of those projects people genuinely look forward to each spring.
