David Aguirre
At our regular Club meeting on October 29, 2026, we heard from David Aguirre, Senior Constituent Service Representative for Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen. Congresswoman Petersen represents Colorado’s sprawling 7th Congressional District, which extends as far north and east as Broomfield, and as far south and west as Bailey. The presentation focused on some of the legislation with which the Congresswoman has been involved and services provided by her Office.
Following the Aspen Acres and Willow Fires, Petersen was part of a bi-partisan group that co-sponsored a set of 6 bills, known as the Wildfire Mitigation Package. The packagefocuses on wildfire research, firefighter health coverage, pine beetle response and disaster mitigation. Petersen “helped pass” (Aguirre’s words) the 21st Century Road to Housing Act. That Act was a bipartisan package aimed at increasing housing supply, lowering costs and reducing duplicative federal regulations for housing grants. Petersen supports the Power for the People Act of 2026. That bill, introduced earlier this year, has a stated purpose to “promote the creation of data center load queues and data center-specific rate classes to mitigate the impact of data centers on other electricity consumers” (language from the Bill). Aguirre pointed out that suicide is now the leading cause of death of youth in the U.S. Petersen supports bills aimed at preventing youth suicide. These are just a few of the many legislative matters in which the Congresswoman has been involved this past year.
Aguirre also described some of the services that the Congresswoman’s Office provides. Each year, the Office nominates candidates to each of the U.S. military academies, sifting through numerous applications in the process. The Office also helps constituents when they have problems with Federal agencies, such as the IRS, VA, Social Security Administration or Immigration and Naturalization Service, to name a few. The Office arranges for constituent tours of government facilities in the D.C. area. The Office also participates in the Congressional Art Competition, which is a visual arts competition for high school students. Each year, the Office distributes Community Project Funding (CPF) allocated to the district. Last year, the Office received some 60-70 applications for CPF and granted about 15 of them. Per Aguirre, recipients included Birch Elementary School and North Metro Fire Rescue District.
