BROOMFIELD ROTARY POLICE/FIRE GOLF TOURNAMENT
This year's Broomfield Police Officers/Firefighters Benefit Golf Tournament was another great success!
Â
For the sixth year, the Broomfield Rotary Club welcomed a sell-out crowd to the
annual Broomfield Police Officers/Firefighters Benefit Golf Tournament hosted
this year by Eagle Trace Golf Course. Forty-five businesses. Local and regional
contributed goods, services and money to help make this event a whopping
success. We are fortunate to have community involved businesses willing to
help out when the need is there.
Again this year, used golf equipment was collected by the Broomfield Rotary
Club to help the Open Fairways Program for disadvantaged kids. Used equipment
is given to Nike Golf in exchange for new golf equipment for the kids. One
talented young 12 year-old donated two sets of outgrown clubs so other kids
will be able to share the game he loves!   More information on this program
can be found at www.openfairways.org .
The Eagle Trace staff worked hard to make sure everyone was well fed and the
golfers need not suffer from thirst. Broomfield Rotary Club volunteers proved
skillful at handling the crowd and making sure that most of the golfers took
prizes home. Broomfield Mayor Pat Quinn, Police Chief Tom Deland, and
golfing members of the city council challenged the field with their expertise.
Sidelined by a wonky leg, District Fire Chief, John O'Hayre helped his fellow
Rotarians by making all the important decisions.
The final accounting revealed a net profit of $23,000.00 was raised by this
event. The primary goal of this tournament remains the continued availability
of funding for the Broomfield Police Officers/Firefighters Benefit Fund so that
those who serve this community with valor can depend on financial help when
one of their own is hurt or killed in the line of duty. All monies received by
the Broomfield Rotary Charitable Foundation are used to support worthy
causes both local and regional.Â
From its inception, this tournament has proved to be one of the most popular
events of its kind, selling out every year. The continued success of this
tournament is solid evidence of the generosity of those who live and work
in
Members of the Broomfield Police Department, the Firefighters of the North
Metro Fire District, the
